New Generation Sponge-like Wound Dressings

Aprašymas:

Wound dressings for a particular wound type and healing stage were prepared using biopolymers such as pectin, alginate, hyaluronic acid, cellulose derivatives.

New generation wound dressings were prepared taking into account the different biological phases of wound healing.

Next step – proof of concept studies (POC - Proof of concept): the effect of the aerogels on cells of epithelial and connective tissues in vitro and analysis in vivo in a mouse model.

Novel Processing Technique to Produce Fibrous Nano and Micro Structures

Aprašymas:

The technology combines additive manufacturing (3D printing) and solvent-free electrospinning processes. Produced structures have controlled fibre diameter (100 nm to 100 mm), large surface area and high porosity. Broad range of polymers can be used as raw materials.

The applications include, but not limited to: biomedicine (tissue engineering); pharma (drug delivery); cleantech (filters, membranes, sensors); energy (electrodes, solar cells, fuel cells); food (packaging material, films); chemical engineering (carbon nano tubes, catalysts).

Technology is further developed by startup "Volatile Innovation”, who is looking for partners to further prototyping and commercialization for the development and of  new high value-added products.

Research of the Properties and the Structure of Self-Compacting Concrete

Aprašymas:

Concrete and reinforced concrete constructions made out of this concrete have a non-porous, visually pleasing concrete surface.

This concrete does not require additional compaction; meanwhile, construction reinforcement can be highly dense. The use of such concrete in reinforced concrete factories allows maximum automation of the production process.

The developed technology allows to produce a concrete mix which is superior technologically, has the best physical and mechanical properties, and is the easiest to use. The spread of the concrete mix is less than 650 mm.

Novelty:

We expect this fluid concrete mix to replace around two thirds of the usual concrete mix in Europe over the next 10 years.

Spiro[chroman-2,2’-indole] Derivatives as Cyanide Ion Chemosensors

Aprašymas:

The derivatives can be used for the detection of cyanide ions in both technological waters and drinking water as well as various gaseous emissions by absorbing them by an appropriate solution.

By affecting the invented 1′,3,3′,4-tetrahydrospiro[chromene-2,2′-indole] derivatives by cyanide ions present in the analysed solution, 3,4-dihydropyran ring decyclization takes place and a coloured 4-nitrophenolate ion occurs, detected colorimetrically. Sensitivity threshold 10-6 M.

Recycling of Elemental Mercury-Containing Light Bulbs and Utilization of Elemental Mercury Waste

Inorganic chemical technology for recycling (decontamination) of elemental mercury-containing light bulbs and elemental mercury waste, which turns elemental mercury into harmless compounds has been developed.

Recycling of light bulbs involves chemical decontamination of mercury vapor and separation of glass and metal in a special machine.

Utilization of liquid mercury is based on the reaction of collected mercury spills with an inorganic material to form a non-hazardous compound. This compound is suitable as a raw material for the subsequent recovery of metallic mercury.

Cationic Biopolymer Flocculants

Biodegradable and effective starch flocculants are obtained by chemical and physical modification of starch. Novel flocculants can be obtained in form of powder or concentrated paste.

The invention allows to produce the cationic flocculants from starch for industrial and municipal wastewater and sludge processing. Such flocculants especially distinguished for their broad flocculation window.

Ultra High Performance Fibre Concrete with Advanced Mechanical Properties and Durability

It has been proved that ultra high performance concrete can be prepared not only from expensive reactive powder but also from cheaper (local) materials.

Research has already found links between concrete’s properties and durability as well as identified its change patterns; the technology for achieving the optimum composition of the concrete as well as using it in a mixture has also been identified.

Novelty:

Ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) mixture with advanced mechanical and durability properties was created using ordinary mixer. Compressive strength varied  from 130 MPa (without micro steel fibres) up to 170 MPa (with 147 kg/m3 micro steel fibres). Flexural strength can be increased more than 5 times – from 6.9 MPa (without micro steel fibres) up to 36.2 MPa (with 147 kg/m3). Salt-scaling resistance at 40 cycles in 3% NaCl solution varied from 0.006 kg/m2 to 0.197 kg/m2.

Concrete with an Elastic Additive

We propose a technology for the disposal of used tires – mechanical milling and fractionation of tires. The shredded rubber can then be used in concrete mixes and mortar as an additive replacing part of the sand

It is a new and simple method for disposing of tires which does not require huge capital investments, only for establishment of an experimental enterprise (technology line) and a license agreement.

Novelty:

Elastic additive would modify concrete properties by increasing its deformability, resistance to cold and increasing its acoustic and other properties.

Antimicrobial Silicone

Aprašymas:

The invention relates to antimicrobial silicone substances, which are obtained by using multifunctional fillers and silicon matrix composites. Using environmentally friendly, simple synthesis techniques to create composites. Silicone was filled with the obtained composites of natural polymer metal particles. The created modified multifunctional filler and silicone composite is characterized by good physical and chemical properties, as well as strong antimicrobial effect on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Novelty:

Created cellulose-based particles and metal nanoparticles composites as multi functional fillers within polymer matrices. Synthesis  of nanocomposites are simple, environment friendly and economical. Obtained composites are stable and non-cytotoxic. Created  unique diffusion system in polymer matrix, which has no analogues in the world.

Non-Autoclaved Aerated Concrete

Aprašymas:

The new aerated concrete composition allows to achieve highly stable properties of the concrete.

The proposed composition reduces the cost of the concrete thanks to using secondary raw materials.

Novelty:

The non-autoclaved aerated concrete based on the modified binding composition containing a supplementary cementitious material, reinforced with polypropylene fibers is characterized by the compressive strength of 2.0…3.0 MPa, with the density of 600…650 kg / m3. Pore size – 0.2-1.0 mm.
