The capabilities of measurement instrument software/firmware are growing but in legal metrology area its usage is strictly regulated in order to ensure correct transaction and customer rights. Thus the collaboration between developers of measurement instruments, systems and software/firmware and metrology specialists is necessary to avoid inappropriate usage of software/firmware during measuring device exploitation. During software/firmware development stage, that will be used to control measuring device, process calibration, verification or inter-laboratory comparisons data, it is necessary to keep in mind the conformity to specific metrological requirements, certification possibilities, etc.
